In the past twenty years, both Dr. Sanderson and Dr. Klosko have published widely in the field of clinical psychology. These publications include an internationally recognized self-help book; a best-selling book for other professionals on schema therapy; articles on cognitive-behavioral therapy for various disorders (anxiety, depression, personality disorders); and books on current psychological research and treatment.
Since being published in 1993, Reinventing Your Life by Dr. Jeffery Young (Director of the Cognitive Therapy Center of New York) and Dr. Janet Klosko has sold over two hundred thousand copies. It has been translated into numerous languages, including French, Spanish, German, Portuguese, Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Norwegian, Dutch and Italian.
Reinventing Your Life is a self-help version of schema therapy. The book presents eleven schemas, or “lifetraps.” These are self-destructive patterns that start in childhood and repeat through life:
1. Mistrust and Abuse
2. Abandonment
3. Emotional Deprivation
4. Defectiveness
5. Social Exclusion
6. Dependence
7. Failure
8. Subjugation
9. Vulnerability to Harm and Illness
10. Unrelenting Standards
11. Entitlement
Reinventing Your Life presents the origins of each lifetrap, how the lifetrap manifests in romantic relationships, danger signals in relationships, and how to change.
The forward to Reinventing Your Life was written by Dr. Aaron Beck, the founder of cognitive therapy. The approach has been integrated with mindfulness by Tara Bennett-Goleman in her book Emotional Alchemy.
